The International Medical Admissions Test (IMAT) is the official entrance exam required for admission to English-taught Medicine and Dentistry programs at public universities in Italy. The IMAT 2026 is expected in the third week of September 2026; the exact date has not yet been published. Test centers are typically available worldwide, allowing candidates to sit the exam close to home without traveling to Italy (final test-center list is announced with the official date).

The IMAT is a paper-based, multiple-choice exam administered directly by the Italian Ministry of Education. It is held on the same day and at the same time worldwide, ensuring fairness and consistency for all candidates.

The exam lasts 100 minutes and consists of 60 questions, distributed as follows:

• 4 questions on reading skills and general knowledge

Declaration of value (DoV):

The Declaration of Value is a document that certifies a degree obtained outside the Italian educational system as valid within Italy. You must demonstrate completion of 12 years of education, confirming your eligibility to apply for medical studies at an Italian university. Taking the IMAT (for EU and non-EU applicants)

The selection test will last 60 minutes.

Admission non-EU applicants

The admission test is divided into two parts:

1. Written test: The test consists of three separate sections. Each section consists of a series of multiple-choice questions:

• Verbal Reasoning- 17 questions

• Numerical Reasoning- 17 questions

• Abstract Reasoning- 17 questions

The overall written test result is obtained by adding the scores for the sections “Verbal Reasoning”, “Numerical Reasoning”, and “Abstract Reasoning”, for a maximum score of 51 points.

2. Interview: The online interview will test the candidate's knowledge of the following topics: general culture, notions of biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics.

The overall assessment of the oral exam ranges from a minimum of 0 to a maximum of 69 points.

The tuition fee is 21140€ per year. There are available scholarships for both EU and non-EU applicants.
